Brooks Hatch: Wednesday stuff Comments
Yes, there is news beyond football signing day.

Should have had this on Tuesday but it slipped through unnoticed.
Corvallis High graduate Kevin Gregg, a six-year major-league veteran as a starter and reliever, has reached a two-year agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to various sources. He pitched for the Chicago Cubs in 2009.
The signing is contingent on Gregg, 31, passing a physical. He has experienced knee problems the past several years but those injuries have been addressed.
Gregg was 5-6, with a 4.72 ERA, in 72 appearances with the Cubs in 2009. He had 23 saves in 30 opportunities and struck out 71 in 68 2/3 innings and has 84 saves over the past three seasons with the Cubs (2009) and the Florida Marlins (2007-08). He has also pitched for the Anaheim Angels.
According to the Toronto Globe newspaper, Gregg is guaranteed $2.75 million, but includes options that could result in him earning $8 million over two seasons or $12 million over three seasons. He earned $4.2 million with the Cubs last season.
He is 23-27 lifetime, with a 4.10 ERA and 85 saves in 343 career appearances.

The Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday claimed former Oregon State pitcher Mike Ekstrom on waivers from the San Diego Padres. Ekstrom lettered at OSU in 2002-03 before transferring to Point Loma Nazarene.
He was 0-0, 6.38 in 12 appearances with the Padres and 4-2, 1.73 in 42 appearances at triple-A Portland in 2008.

The Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League have signed right-handed pitcher Anthony Wirkkala to a 10-day contract for the 2010 season, president Dan Segel announced Wednesday.
A 6-foot-6, 210-pounder from Ilwaco, Wash., he pitched at Central Washington in 2009 and will play at Clackamas Community College this season.
The Knights open the season at Kitsap on June 4. Their home opener is June 15 against Bend.

OSU baseball players Carter Bell and Jared Norris will play for the first-year Willmar (Minn.) Stingers in the Northwoods League this coming summer, according to this report.
Bell played briefly for the Knights in 2009 before being sidelined by a concussion. Norris did not play summer baseball in 2009, as he was recovering from wrist surgery.
For those of you unfamiliar with Minnesota geography, Willmar’s a city of about 18,000 located about two hours due west of the Twin Cities.
